‘For colder climates and shorter seasons, seeds should be started indoors about a month before your zone's last frost date and transplanted outdoors when temperatures are consistently above 60☏ (15☌).’
‘For warm climates, start okra seeds in the spring when temperatures are consistently around 60☏ (15☌) both day and night. ‘Okra is a hot weather crop – meaning it prefers warm soil and lots of sun,’ says Kuthy.
The key to learning how to grow okra from seed is to time it correctly, and not to start them off too early. (Image credit: Getty Images) When to grow okra
I have too many anyway so I gave her WAY more than a market dollars worth/ I feel a little bad though, i gave her the best ones of the mushy ones on the counter, but I was not about to go out in the heat and pick fresh ones/ I will have my BF bring her some fresh ones tomorrow.‘Your biggest job with okra is keeping up with the harvests before the bountiful pods get too large and tough to be enjoyed.’
On the plus side my neighbor bought some tmatoes from me this morning/ she paid a dollar, I was going to let her have them for free but she refused. I can't store too many tupperwares in the fridge and my freezer is tiny. My boyfriend is going to do the work for me this evening thankfully, and make salsa with some tomatoes. I'm going to have to make an effort to go out and pick a lot of stuff tomorrow, I bet the squash and zucchini have overgrown, but I have been to tired to make it to the computer or the toilet so I really don't want to go out in the heat. my tomatoes are getting bruised and mushy from waiting for me to eat them but I can't taste anything and have no appetite. Photos online arent really helping me tell the difference.Īlso, I'm really sick, I have been since Saturday evening, I have barely made it outside to water let alone pick all my ripe tomatoes or eat anything, I'm so sad. I never see them flower so either I'm missing it or. I really can't tell when they're ready or not and I"m trying. I picked a couple "real" okras and then picked another one that turned out to be an almost closed (or maybe just opening?) flower bud. I'm having a hard time telling the difference between an okra that is ready to be picked and eaten, and a flower bud/.
